Why Coated Webbing Storage Matters

Pawtex is made with a strong polyester core and a protective PVC coating. The internal webbing provides structure and strength, while the outer coating creates the smooth, moisture-resistant surface that makes Pawtex practical for workshop production and finished products. [1]

That protective surface makes coated webbing relatively low maintenance, but it does not mean storage conditions can be ignored.

Workshop stock can be exposed to dust, grease, moisture, direct sunlight, sharp hardware, heavy boxes and temperature changes. Long lengths may also pick up unnecessary bends or creases if they are folded tightly or squeezed into undersized storage.

Pawtex Oz recommends storing Pawtex in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. [2] Broader industry guidance for PVC-coated polyester materials also recommends clean, completely dry storage and avoiding unnecessary bending. [3]

The practical goal is straightforward: protect the material between jobs so it remains clean, organised and ready for the next build.

You do not need a complicated storage system. A few consistent habits can make stock easier to manage and reduce unnecessary handling.

Store it dry

How to Store Full Rolls, Open Rolls and Offcuts

Storage does not need to look exactly the same for every piece of material. Open each section for the setup that matches your stock.

30M Full Pawtex rolls

Pawtex is available in full 30 m rolls, so workshops carrying production stock need a storage system that supports the complete roll without creating unnecessary pressure points.

Keep full rolls on clean, flat and adequately sized shelving.
Avoid placing heavy cartons, tools or hardware tubs directly on top.
Keep colour and width labels visible for faster stock picking.
Where practical, keep the roll wound rather than repeatedly unrolling it for stock checks.
Rotate older stock forward when replenishing frequently used colours.

OPEN Part-used and open rolls

Open rolls can become untidy quickly if loose ends are allowed to unwind. Re-roll the material without excessive tension and secure the loose end in a way that does not mark or sharply crease the coating.

Keep the remaining length wound neatly.
Avoid tight clips or clamps directly against the coated surface.
Record the approximate remaining quantity if the roll is used for repeat production.
Return it to the correct width and colour location after use.

CUT Long offcuts and leftover lengths

Useful offcuts do not need to become a tangled workshop bin.

Longer lengths can be loosely rolled and grouped by width. Shorter usable pieces can be stored in clearly labelled trays or tubs.

Separate 16 mm, 20 mm and 25 mm material.
Keep usable offcuts separate from waste.
Label colour codes where shades are similar.
Avoid folding long pieces into very tight bundles.

Temperature, Moisture and Direct Sunlight

Pawtex-specific care guidance recommends cool, dry storage away from direct sunlight. Broader PVC-coated polyester guidance provides a useful additional benchmark for material storage.

Avoid excessive workshop heat

General PVC-coated polyester guidance notes that prolonged higher temperatures can affect coating behaviour. Avoid using areas beside heaters, hot machinery or vehicle interiors as permanent stock storage.

Keep stock dry

Webbing that has been washed or exposed to wet conditions should be completely air dried before storage. Damp material should not be sealed away simply because the coating itself resists water.

Limit unnecessary sunlight

Pawtex is UV resistant, but UV resistance does not make prolonged direct sunlight the ideal storage condition. When the material is not being used, keep rolls away from windows or areas receiving extended direct sun.
